My American cousin is also in Iraq, in Baghdad. He works in a supply shop. He said his happiest times are when he gets to go off base and play with children and meet families. He said that the family time reminds him of home (Maine) and makes him homesick. One of the Iraqi ladies who works on the base has emailed his mother and they have become friends by email. They hope to meet one day and no one has any doubt that they will. My cousin and his family do not agree with what is going on there, but he takes pleasure in helping the people he can help. I would not have been surprised if this picture had been of him surrounded by Iraqi kids! Despite the news, there are Americans who care deeply about Iraq's people and their well-being. The politicians seem to be missing this message.
